Mt. Zion Kids Club Wrestling

Codes of Conduct (2018-19 Season)

Wrestler Code of Conduct

The function of the Mt. Zion Kids Club Wrestler Code of Conduct is to promote team unity, good sportsmanship, instill discipline, a positive attitude and lead by example.

As a wrestler in the Mt. Zion Kids Club Wrestling organization activities and events, I shall conform to the following:

  1. Try my very best to support my team, and be a team player and always put the team first.
  2. Accept my coaches' teaching and be ready to learn and to have fun.
  3. Listen to the coaches and follow the rules of the Mt. Zion Kids Club organization and the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF).
  4. Demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off of the mat.
  5. Will show respect towards all coaches, wrestlers, referees, and other parents.
  6. Will not fight, use foul language or argue with coaches, teammates, or referees.

All wrestlers will abide by these principles contained within the Code of Conduct, which includes the provisions stipulated herein. If any of these rules are broken, Mt. Zion Kids Club Wrestling coaches shall have the authority to impose a penalty, including, but not limited to immediate suspension of participation rights in any or all further club activities.

Parent/Coach Code of Conduct

Parents, as well as their athletes, will be held responsible for compliance with their Code of Conduct. As members of the Mt. Zion Kids Club Wrestling organization, parents and coaches are to embody the values of the organization while representing the sport of wrestling through the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) and the Mt. Zion community. The Mt. Zion Kids Club belongs to all of us. With ownership comes the responsibility for its success. The Mt. Zion Kids Club board will stress that no individual is more important than the team. Everyone is equal and must do their individual jobs to make the team successful. With team success, individual success follows. When one succeeds, we all succeed. Each wrestler is responsible for him or herself as well as his or her teammates.

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these

“six pillars of character.”

As a parent or spectator:

  1. I will not force my child to participate in the sport of wrestling and will encourage them to the best of their ability.
  2. I will remember that children participate to have fun and that wrestling is for the youth, not adults.

  1. I will ensure that a parent or adult is with my child during practice and tournaments if they are 5 years old or younger. If my child is older than 5, I will make sure that your child is dropped off and picked up in the wrestling room at Mt. Zion Intermediate at the designated time after practice as well as ensure that an adult is responsible for them at tournaments.

  1. I will inform the coaches of any physical disability, mental disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or others.

  1. I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all wrestlers, coaches, officials and spectators at every dual, tournament, practice or other sporting event.

  1. I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, wrestler, parent or spectator such as booing and taunting; verbal and physical threats; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.

  1. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and or well-being of the athletes.

  1. I will teach my child to wrestle by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

  1. I (and my guests) will treat other wrestlers, coaches, officials, parents and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.

  1. I will respect the coaches and officials and their authority during wrestling matches and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at a tournament, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.

  1. I will respect the coaches, officials of the Mt Zion Kids Club board and their authority during practices and will never disrupt practice or encourage unsafe/unhealthy training for any child.

  1. I will respect everyone's right to a healthy practice environment and will not remove my child from practice due to his/her performance; and I will let coaches know prior to practice if my child cannot attend or will need to leave practice early.

  1. I understand that I am welcome to assist the coaches. However, I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during meets and practices, unless I am officially volunteering as a coach at practice or obtain a coach’s card with the IKWF upon approval of the head coach. If I volunteer as a coach, it is understood that I am expected to assist during the practices.

  1. I will ensure my child will wear a designated Mt. Zion Kids Club team singlet to all team competitions that appear on the official club schedule. I will ensure all necessary equipment to compete is in good working order.

  1. I will ensure that my child participates at the officially designated club tournaments to include at a minimum the home tournament in addition to at least three other tournaments on the schedule. The Mt Zion Kids Club board reserves the right to grant exceptions on a case by case basis.

  1. I will ensure that any comments regarding coaches or the organization are portrayed in in an appropriate manner when utilizing social media. If there are any concerns, they should be addressed to the individual and not in a public forum.

  1. I will ensure that any exhibition matches or those not scheduled during an official tournament will be approved by the head coach or his designee prior to the match.

Mt. Zion Kids Club reserves the right to terminate (without registration refund) your child's privilege to participate in the wrestling program based on the expectations of the code of conduct. Any offense of the aforementioned code of conduct may impact the ability to continue participation with the club (both parent and child), which will be voted on by the club board.

I have read the Mt. Zion Kids Club Parent/Coaches Code of Conduct for the season. By clicking “I agree”, I acknowledge and affirm its contents as the rules and regulations that fairly and objectively govern the Mt. Zion Kids Club Wrestling organization.
